Dear Members

On Thursday 29th May our SJCS UK5 committee members met at Mario Machado's plush office for our final roundup and closing of accounts meeting.

On behalf of our full SJCS Committee team we herewith submit our financial statements professionally actioned by our Chartered Accountant and team member Johnny Coutinho.

We are pleased to report a surplus of £243; however this was after currency exchange losses of £245, but also assisted by a contribution of £375 from a benefactor towards the costs of the Souvenir Book.

The result is indicative of the fine tuning applied at the outset in setting the event prices in the respective currencies against a background of fluctuating exchange rates notably vis-à-vis the Rupee, effectively the mother currency.

With regard to the events we felt let down to a degree by the Marriott hosting of the Grand Gala Ball and consequently lodged our complaints. After lengthy correspondence we have just recently been able to secure compensation of 20% (not as yet received) - fuller details in the notes to the Financial Statements.

Separately from the mainstream operations money has been collected towards the Nuns Funds. At our meeting on the 29th May it was ratified in accordance with our objective that all the money from SJCS Goa including the compensation from the Marriott will go towards the Nuns Welfare funds with a small gift to Sr. Hildergadis, in celebration of her 60 years as CPS this year.

SJCS Goa Reunion UK5 Team future planning

We wish to inform all our members that the UK5 team will not fold up as we have decided to embark on a very special project, specifically announced in the closing speech at the Farewell function, namely the Renovation of our St. Joseph's Church Zanzibar.

It is intended that a company will be incorporated and governed by a dedicated set of Memorandum and Articles of Association, to consolidate and co-ordinate all our efforts towards this noble cause.

This project will be spearheaded by Johnny Coutinho and the plan is to take on-board a few other members globally and amongst those to be proposed are Tony Antao USA, John de Silva and Madhu Canada, Yvette Muise Nova Scotia.

A full project plan will follow shortly.

Best regards

Benito de Souza
